Sabah's Lost World, the famous Maliau Basin, is located in south central Sabah, about 40 km north of the Kalimantan border. Maliau Basin Conservation Area is 588.4 km in size, (slightly smaller than the island of Singapore) and is surrounded by two Buffer Zones to give it extra protection.

Shell Maliau Basin Reception & Information Building lies just inside the boundary of Yayasan Sabah Forest Management Area, in Maliau Basin Conservation Area Buffer Zone II, at about 300m a.s.l
